Henry B. Fuller (1857-1929), an American novelist and short story writer, was considered one of the important novelists of Chicagos early years. The scion of one of Chicagos early settler families, he found the increasingly industrial and multicultural nature of the city off-putting. His finest achievement is Bertram Copes Year (1919), a subtle novel about homosexuals in Chicago and a love affair between Cope and Arthur Lemoyne, which ends with Cope turning heterosexual.
